Safety
The Safety Imperative
Everyone knows that agriculture can be a dangerous industry. Farmers have an instinctive desire to make their farms safe not only for themselves but also for employees and family. At Cargill, we want to see our people and our customers work and go home safely every day.
Accidents are unexpected and unintentional by definition. The only way to minimize them is to practice safety.
We plan for the unexpected. If we notice an unsafe condition, we address it. We encourage our customers to have emergency action plans and discuss them with everyone who spends time on their farms. We also help customers develop plans that fit their farm and management style.
Producing food to feed the world is hard work. It must also be safe work.
Increased safe driving
In agriculture, we spend a lot of time on the road, whether in cars, tractors or other heavy equipment. Being focused behind the wheel is crucial to getting to your destination safely. Sadly, the global statistics are staggering. According to the World Health Organization, 1.2 million people die each year in roadway collisions. In Cargill, vehicle incidents are one of our leading causes of fatalities. We implemented a total ban on mobile/cell phone use while driving on company time to minimize the risk of distracted driving. While we can't eliminate all driving risks, this is a significant step toward keeping our people safer on the roads. We invite our customers and partners to take this step as well to help reduce the number of fatalities and serious injuries on the road.
